Italy’s Consob Warns Crypto Platforms Ahead of MiCAR Deadline
Italy’s financial regulator Consob has issued a stark warning to crypto investors and VIRTUAL Asset Service Providers (VASPs) as the December 30, 2025 deadline for Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCAR) compliance approaches. Platforms operating without authorization must cease operations and return customer funds by the cutoff date.
Investors are urged to verify platform authorization status through the OAM or ESMA registers. The MiCAR framework aims to standardize crypto-asset regulation across the EU, prioritizing market transparency and investor protection. Firms applying for authorization may continue operating until June 30, 2026 pending review.
